What do you guys usually do? The situation is a not so big maple. It was topped a while ago. Customer wants it removed. It is maybe 30 ft tall but the branches with any diameter stop much further into the canopy. Most of the canopy is sucker growth. Some of this little stuff is in and around a power line on the road.
Nothing more than 1/2" diameter or so. There isn't a whole lot of interference there but some. Would you guy just pole clip the little stuff that is gong around the wires on the street side and then cut it on the tree side so nothing brushes the wires? I don't know if I am explaining this well, but there is no real possibility of anything larger or of any consequence hitting the wires I just want to know how you guys work around this.

Thanks:cheers:

It's easy. Call the local utility and inform them that the tree is being removed and that you need 10' of clearance before you can finish the job.

If you are not line clearance certified you are not allowed to touch it. For your own safety, and for the saftey of the power system.

Nobody should ever receive instruction on how to work around power lines over the internet. For many reasons.

Thanks for the info! I have never done anything near power before. I moved and am now doing a lot more jobs in the urban jungle. I will definitely call the power company and go from there.

In your experience, is there a charge for the customer to have the power company come and provide clearance?

Thanks again for the info.

Should be no charge to you or the homeowner for the clearance, although they usually do not clean up (so you would be wise to work that out with customer early on and coordinate timing with the utility crew). Utility companies like it when we eliminate threats to their lines, so they're usually happy to help.
