I've been tossing around the idea of getting a used smaller stump grinder. I just do the tree work part time, so it's not like i'll be using it everyday. I'm guessing maybe 2-3 days a week tops. What i didn't know is if those "modified roto-tiller look-a-like" stump grinders were any good. I've found a Vermeer 186 and a Vermeer 630B that are in my price range and close to home. Being able to get the grinder back into tight places is almost a must, but some of the trees i cut are well over 3ft. at the ground. So i nead something big enough to grind those out too. Any info. would be great.

vermeer sc252, rayco 1625 jr or carlton 4400 - all fit thru 36" gate, are self-propelled, and will grind any size stump - big ones just take a little longer.

With a small grinder, you can do any size job starting out and then look to pick up a larger machine to pair up with the small one once business picks up.

i have a 630 b i love it but got it new 15000.00 tom trees

There's a 630b a couple hours away from me for fairly cheap with a blown motor. I told him i'd take it barring that the rest of the machine was in good shape. But i also have a 35 horse Wisconson here that should bolt right on. It's a bit bigger than what i think i need (and i don't think it has the hyd. drive on it) but if the price is right ...............
