Woke up early this morning with Mrs, I decided I would blow out the driveway and look at finishing the points and condensors on my Alpine, Days going great, get the driveway done, head into the garage to finish the Alpine with a few minor issues but nothing major, get er fired up and ready to go haul some logs outta the bush, well I head out into our front field do a few laps with the beast to pack things down, hook onto the first log (ski-doo running mint) get it half way across the field and the log is burried, now I expected this seeing as it was th first trip outta the bush so I un hooked decided to do a BIG loop (Alpine's dont turn well) and get her BURRIED... This is where it gets bad, so I try and try to get it out its not happening, I have nothing to winch off of, im in the middle of a field... so after walking all the way back to the house to get the Mrs sled I dig and dig FINNALY I get it out, drive the Alpine back to the house and ask the Mrs to come back out with me to ride her sled back, well as we take off she wipes outs onto the "truck" part of the Alpine and now refuses to ride the monster, and now the Alpine is starting to run like a sack of Poop, so I back up to turn around to take it back to the house well dont I suck up 25ft of aircraft cable into the track and boogies SIGH Ok now Im starting to get a little excitied leave the Alpine there and go get the tractor to drag it back up the driveway, so after I walk all the way back up to the drive shed fire the old Ford up again back it out (its really tight) drive down the driveway (our driveway is long and has a few steep sections, this is one) hook onto whats left of the cable sticking out of the suspention and lift it with the bucket, well doesnt the bastard flip over and now im stuck off the side of the driveway, sled attached to the bucket and my blood pressure is going through the roof, I push it forward get around it and push it to the top of the driveway (Alpine For SALE) then proceed to put the tractor back in the driveshed, well I guess the exhaust or bad luck decided to slide a enitre section off the steel roof ( 12 12 pitch) onto me as I am pulling into the driveshed, now Im covered in snow pissed off, what a day. Did I mention the wood that I hauled in today caused $300 worth of damage to my saw, and It seems my OWB doesent like it so Im heading out with some kindling.

Anybody else have a day like me? Sorry had to vent, Im sure some of you can relate.

Wow, I wonder what your day would be like if you had a bad one! :biggrinbounce2:
Seriously, I can feel your pain, not that I've had days that bad.
Look at it this way, things can only get better because they cannot get any worse.

Cheers Jim, Im hoping tommorow is better  Im thinking about buying wood at this point in time.

Yep that's a bad day for sure, even by my standards. While all the dark clouds were in your neck of the woods I was having a pretty good day.

I just took a 36 year old semi-in law under my wing. His lady needed more space. Really a decent guy but his parents never really taught him survival skills. A week ago he was living in a one room hotel efficiency, now he's living in my old 2100 sq ft shop. We just got him a refrigerator and stove and he's having fresh baked chocolate chip cookies with his daughters (5 and 8) plus some fresh made real bacon grease popcorn. I gave him half his rent back and told him that refrigerator needed some food. Now he's got a nice stock of burger sausage and bacon. His dad gave him $400 two weeks ago to find a place. I suggested he give the money back but he didn't have to do what I told him, just a suggestion. He gave the money back.

Really helping someone who deserves it---now that's a good day.

Tomorrow we'll get the wood burner hooked up and save him a few bucks on the gas bill.

Hey atlarge, Looking back on my day after reading what you had to say, gave me a different out look on things I must admit, At one point in time was that fella staying in your shop, and believe me I was thankful. Honestly thank you for sharing that with me, I guess my day wasnt too bad, tommorow is a new day.

Thanks Again

We've all had days like that. Wonder why ya even get outa bed.:givebeer:

If I didn't have this impeccable sense of humor I think this would have been one helluva day. I put more miles on my tractor going sideways than forward in the snow. Did find a mouse couple living in the dead bark of a Chestnut tree. One was a victim of my size 10, the other escaped. Cut and fetched in about a two week supply of firewood. Was it worth the effort? No.

Wow, makes my Saturday look like everything went smoothly!

My Saturday:

Go down to my grandparents' place to cut up some butts and scraps that the loggers left (light selective cut on 1/5 of the property a year and a half ago)... Friend met me down there, and we were going to saw them into firewood lengths and split them for firewood...

We get down there and the ground is frozen. Get the tractor out, take the blade off, and hook up the draw bar. Hook tractor up to splitter by the barn, then I drive the tractor/splitter out to the logging scraps pile and he drives my truck with my utility trailer behind it...

I forgot the cant hook and logging chains in the barn, so I unhook splitter and take the Deere back and put the chains and cant hook in the front end loader bucket and make my way back out there... I come up over the hill to see him just yanking on the starter on his 034. He finally got it started, but it was running pretty lean on the top end (2-stroking WOT no load) and had no power in the cut. The thing hadn't been run since early fall. I told him about the Ethenol in the fuels now, and he dumped his fuel out of the saw, and put in some of my mix. It ran better, but was still lean. I pulled out the adjustment screwdriver and I could get it to lean out more, but couldn't get it any richer. Clogged jet, I'm sure, so we shut it down before he trashed a P&C...

He started his trim saw and went to town on the stuff in the pile.

I got the 490 out, which I had just done a bunch of maint. work to, and tested out at home, and it ran great for a cut or 2 (18" red oak), then started bogging and flooded out... Crap. I re-set the coil spacing and all that crap. New plug (twice, I carry spares in my saw toolbox), leaned out the mixture, everything... Would get it started, it'd be fine, then really rich, then start to lean out... Finally I just put it away before I did any damage, and went to town with the 330...

Yes, we cut up a 5x8 trailer and 1/2 truck bed load of wood with 2 trim saws...

Got enough bucked up, and went to start the splitter... It hadn't been run since November, so you can guess how that went... Wet plug, had spark, fuel in the bowl was water saturated... Pulling and pulling and pulling (1/2 hour or so), and finally got the thing started...

We got all this knotted wood split up and loaded, and the ground had thawed... I dropped the tires on the truck to 25PSI, and actually made it out fine, though it did dent up the field pretty good, and I'll probably have to go throw some grass seed in my tracks in the next few weeks...

Got home and unloaded into stacks. I just got done with the second stack and was knocking some of the sticking out pieces back toward the first stack, and must have hit something, because the end square stack of the first stack blew out and half of the first stack rolled out the end of it... Crap. I just went in and went to bed... Got up Sunday morning and re-stacked the half of the first stack (which is behind the second stack, by the way, up against the fence), and started stack 3 with the rest of the wood in the truck.

Got to looking at the 490 and it seems that when I replaced the vent hose on the fuel tank, that it had gotten squished and was cutting off the vent air... So as the saw heated up, it got richer, then as I was using fuel out of it, it got leaner... That's why I was having a flooding problem then a lean condition very soon after... Crap.

On the bright side, for next weekend, the splitter has fresh fuel and has been run, and the 490 will be in top form... I hope...

Mike
