Are you making it like a greenhouse to let sun in or are you using an outside heat collector and solid siding on the kiln? I still would like to make a small one here for my own use.

It will be totally solar powered. The far side from which the picture was took will be all windows. I’m using windows because my neighbor replaced the windows in his house so I get enough to make this kiln for free. It will also have solar powered fans to circulate the air.

Two more windows in today. Not the optimum windows but there were 30 buck for two 24x85 pieces of defused glass.1A4053C5-4C82-4CF4-AB68-D07F238BE7FA.jpeg

Very nice. I made a solar kiln out of not quite seasoned lumber. I wish I would have built it in place like you did, but I put it on skids. I also would have made the opening in the back like yours, rather than the front opening up.

Got more done on the solar kiln today. The north side and top is all skinned in. Just the doors vent area above C29AAC01-2A3A-42C9-B265-A90465B54313.jpegdoors to skin. Going to have to buy more wood to finish, the part I hate the most.

Got the windows sealed and almost all of the kiln wrapped with roofing felt this weekend. Lots of up and down a ladder.

Hope to finish this side tomorrow, only 4 small areas to work on. Then I’m going to work on the inside before putting siding on. Just want the inside done before it gets hot.
