I have finally quit using my Rayco trailer to haul my machine after 5 years of beating my machine to death. I would like your feedback on whether to get 5x10 tilt trailer or landscape gate trailer. I am currently using my 16' utility trailer with gate but it is too big for my needs. Thanks for your help!

Any single axle trailer will give your Rayco a rough ride. If you want it to have a smoother ride, you will have to stick with a 2 axle trailer.

Thanks, your right about the double axle, but anything with springs is hands down better that the factory trailer without springs, it blows my mind that they would produce this to haul their own equipment on! ramp or tilt is decision that I need to make> Thanks again!

I know what you mean about the Rayco trailer. I had one for several years. I tried a small tilt bed trailer next. While the tilt bed was handy, It had a tendency to slam down hard, both when unloading and loading. Even if I moved the machine very slowly, at the breakover point, the bed would slam down.
I did not care much for that tilt bed, but if you had one with a hydraulic cylinder to control the tilt, it would probable be fine. I replace the tilt trailer with a tandem utility trailer and had a sturdy fold-up ramp built for it. That worked great. I have since gone to an enclosed trailer with a set of custom-built heavy duty pin-on ramps.
So, I have used a lot of trailers of various types. I think the tilt-bed was my "least favorite".

I was hoping to try a tilt trailer, so as not to have to fool with the gate. trying to keep everything as compact as I can. Thanks for your input!

I have no experiences with tilt trailers, but after the single axle I went to double axles and it was a fantastic upgrade. It runs so smooth behind me, no waging, just stable and safe.

Beeing a bit tired of handling ramps each (un) loading process I wanted a tilt trailer, having had a few jobs now, where I needed ramps to reach the stump, I suddenly was happy with them. No ramps, no money.
Some stumps where instance jobs from neighbours, with no preparation time.

So I decided that the only reasonable upgrade would be a nice van. With ramps, a dry and save place for tools and grinder and no fooling around with tacking a 30' vehicle combo in tight places.

Regards
Marne

A van, never thought about that, I use a 5x10 trailer with gate and haven't had any problems. I will have to look at that as im in the market for a new rig!

Hey Marne, Any chance you could show us a couple pictures or your rig, sounds impressive. Using my 16' for now till I figure it out. Thanks guys for your feedback.

grindertrlrrear.jpg I meant to post a photo of my enclosed trailer, with the ramps, but forgot to do so. Here is my setup. I have several holes in the rear frame for various track or wheel width on machines.

There is really nothing special about my rig, but when I look at mowingmans pic, I wonder how he's keeping things that clean, you got a trainee?

I buy a lot of "Simple Green" cleaner. I also have a 16 year old grandson who wants to earn money to buy his first vehicle.
