The magic number up here for planting a tree next to a utility line is no less than 8 meters.
That's about 26 feet.

line clearance

The right-of-way for most of the smaller lines in the towns here is 26' ( 13' either side of the poles)but the lines that went up in the 1920s have 9' either side of the poles. It came into question last year when they were doing line clearance and an "owner" didn't want a tree cut. Checked the maps and the guy did not only not own the property it would not have mattered the Bourogh had right-of-way for street to be widened 8' past the tree. The tree is gone. Not a bad thing, the fire truck,UPS,Fedex, and others all hit the low hanging limb in the street aside from the branches in the wires that needed to be removed.
The newer, upscale housing in this area are going for underground wires to look good, no more poles.
