UPS brought me my new .050 bar and some ripping chain, I couldnt help but go try it out. I did not really notice faster cutting, but the quality of cut was better even when I knew I made a mistake.

I should have listened, next bar will be a 42 inch LOL

Yeah, milling chain won't cut any faster, it may even cut slower but it should on average give a better finish.

Been there - done that :)

At least you have had a chance to run yor saw lately . I haven't fired one up in two weeks. And this weekend isn't looking good either.

I've cut wood nearly every day for the past month. I usually cut in February but heavy snow kept me out of the woods till March. A few more cords to split then im done till next year and will mill when I feel like it. Going tomorrow to pick over 20 acres that is being timbered then off to look at a boat load of Cedar that I can have (thanks to the snopw and wind)...then I have to go drop a big walnut im trading a load of firewood for to save it from the woodstove.

Hey...its good excercise!

I agree it is great exercise it beats sitting in the house all day. Sounds like you got some milling ahead of you.:clap:Keep us posted on the progress. It is really neat to watch smebody learn something new, and post pics for all to enjoy.

My next house will be concrete and underground:jawdrop:

I grew up next to one of the first "earth homes" in our region and always wanted to own one.

68 degrees year round, virtually no maintence except mowing the roof:cheers:

Im no greenie weenie by far, but that type of home offers so much that i cant get away from it haha

Great job!!!!

I noticed all your wedges layin around,,,I went the cheepie way and bought some door shims,,,got a pack full for under 2 bucks...I usally stack 2 for my kerf,,but watch and make sure I get my kerf gap even...Sometimes I swear I got add,, and thats why I went with that way so I wouldnt lose my good wedges...You millin some red oak???? I want to go to the next level and experiment with tryin to quarter sawing....

That's certainly not true of log homes, which require more maintenance than a stick frame home...:givebeer:
