went snagfalling again today... did about four or five...

it was about a ten minute walk between each tree
so a little over two hours had gone by from when i left
to when i got back to the truck.

i didn't get very far on the back cut before she took off...

next tree had been struck by lightning some years ago.
this is as close as i'll get to cutting on a fire.

and i forgot the coveted stump shot once again

walkin' back to the truck, the dog and i rounded a bend and came head to head with an opossum. naturally the possum makes a wide turn to avoid us. eddie would have none of it. (mind you i had all my falling gear on and a saw in hand). he decides to go after it. after a jolting lunge (had him leashed on some parts of the walk) he picks it up and gives it a good shake and the possum goes limp. then he walks head held high as if he was gonna take it home and have a hoedown. that i would have none of...

actually your supposed to before cutting. if they show up and you have standing snags or standing Dead trees within 2 tree lengths of the tree your falling they can write you out a ticket. its pretty stupid.

Snagfelling is a necessity. Or you'll end up flagging so many areas for the rigging crew and fallers to stay out of, that there won't be any area left to log! Washington State rules say if they aren't sound and safe to work under, they come down or you can't work near them. It does look scary to fall some of them though.
