looking for advise and pics on the best way to set up a speed line. Something I can move around the tree and adjust the slack.

There are just too many methods, and too many reasons to use a speedline. If you have a more specific question, ask it. If you just want an easy education, consider posting this in arborist 101.

Search the threads for "speedline", and you will get all the answers you need for a wide variety of situations.

Simple set up

Porty is on the front of truck.

The anchor in the tree is a running bowline which can be repositioned at different times.

Dats why I sped it.

I can be very quick and easy to go from standard lowering to zippin one or two out.

And don't be thinking I scuffed up that roof like that. What would I be working with that would leave marks like that anyway?

I like speedlining 'em to the back of the chipper. Cleans up the drop zone, and points the butt toward the chipper. It also gets the rope free and available to the climber quicker.

But the "how-to's" are too complicated for just a vague question.

a few speedline pics

Its looks as though there should be a pulley in the porty's position and the porty should be on the ground but I see what you were doing with the set up. The limbs were pulled into the speedline with the butt hitch then allowed to run down the line over the house.

Sometimes its not only a little easier to fly limbs like that because they move themselves that but also because it affords the climber ease of control. The energy that can be derived from the speedline's many nuances can be used in various ways in accordance to the feats you are attempting to acheive.

What's up with the lowering line going into the block. Is that a knot or is the line twisted?

If your asking about quick tensioning.... use a portawrap, winch, sherrill tree pulling kit or fiddle block setup on the ground end and let the ground guy adjust tension in the speedline. I'm sure there are tons of other ways too.

I have often wondered about a better way to control lowering the limb vs rolling it down the pulley. Having never thought of twisting the line feeding into the pulley, I have always used a separate rope to attach the limb to the pulley, with a separate rope to for the speed line control rope.

Super cool tip! Now I will be a bit more willing to use the pulley, 'cause I won't be messing with quite so much hardware in the tree.

Now that I am thinking clearly on the topic, I'll bet a munter hitch on a caribeaner at the bottom of the pulley would work better though...

Line was twisted it only needed about 20' away from the tree to clear the house. worked like a charm.

Just asking did you experience any kind of damage to the lowering line by doing it hat way with the twist? Just by looking and, not having seen it, it looks like it might get damaged by the cheek plates of the block. So inquiring minds want to know because it looks quick and effective.

Greet Pics. I'm thinking of something I can move around the tree fairly easy. It would probably be best suited for smaller limbs. A sling, shackle or carabine and rope grab to adjust and move the line in the tree. Keep the pics coming. Thanks guysand stay safe.

No that is a screw type pulley and there was a steel biner connected to the bottom that the rope was running through.. I had it set so it would twist when the debri swung under the speed line... btw in the picture is the whole top of the tree.
at the bottom of the line it ran though a 6' tall crotch into a porta wrap.
usually if im just speed lining limbs i will run the bottom to the ground and take up several nylon loops and steel biners and just let them fly....

A skid steer works very well to :msp_wink:

Got cha. I usually rock the runners and biners myself.
