Lookin to purchase a new split tail eye to eye... How long of a cord should I get? Im new to running a sytem like this (previous was a tautline non split tail system). New system is a hitchclimber self tending a distel hitch, using a new Lava rope.I've been experimenting with length of cord but was wondering what you guys might think is the best length and brand and diameter for my setup. Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

I don't use a rig quite like that, so I can't advise, but...

Get an old rope, knot up a section (rather than eye-splice) and experiment. You should have a pretty good idea within 10 minutes of what will work and what won't.

I use a VT on Beeline for a self tending friction hitch, I set mine at 28". I am currently experimenting with both spliced and knotted versions. E2E without a hitch climber will punish the climber with the extra slack, so you may prefer longer if you have your rig set up to "raise the knot" as you ascend. Otherwise, shorter is better.

Beeline is pricey, but tough as all getout. Some have reported poor results, but I like it. VERY firm when new, it loosens up a bit with use. Icetail is simple to splice, many use it to make their own. I have heard that it gets a bit loose with use; it is also very strong and heat resistant. If you are going to buy a pre-spliced E2E, then buy one that is made of a tough material.

any recommendations on what friction hitch works best with bee line and lava? thats what i was planning on using.

I use 24" HRC with a distel which works well for me. Not using hitch climber just regular micro pully

as we speak i use the distel on the beeline 10mm. thats with the hitchclimber when i am not on the crane. micropulley and 2 biners when i am off the ball.

i recommend a knot that has more than one major pinch point otherwise you will be going through a ton of cord. they supply me with the beeline and ive already gone through 200ft of it. good cord for sure but asked for the ice tail in the next order.

moved from the martin onto the distel. wasnt that big of a fan of the VT. maybe you'll like the XT?

you asked about length too. havent measured the length, sorry. i just mass produce like 5 at a time from an older one. no eye2eye just the scaffold knots. i will take a look at that next time.

y the change for the crane climbing? never been up on the ball but very interested in crane climbing.

3 holes on that HC. was taking too long to get up back together for the turn around. easier for me to just pass the spliced eye through the shackle above the hook and clip the biner to my bridge.

that and it didnt feel as great as it does when i am just rope climbing.

i love the HC just not off the crane.

when using the hitchclimber i feel as though i want to have something to keep the pulley setup above my head and pull down on my tail to ascend.. maybe a piece of webbing and a biner to my bridge? any pics of your setup?

there are some random pics of the different ways ive run it on here, but i have no idea what threads they are in.

but.

what you are saying is good. when i am going to make a long ascent into the tree after setting a good high line then i girthhitch a sling to the bottom biner and biner that sling to my bridge. perfect to hand over hand or single line footlock to the top. just make sure the sling isnt too long so that you cannot reach your knot.

good idea bud.
