I got some issues with my splitter.. Got some 18 inch white oak that it will hardly split.. Most of the time it will split them in half.. But when it hits the 4 way all progress stops.. The motor starts lugging like it's going to stall out.. I can back the ram all the way back.. Drop in a 6 inch block between the ram and my piece of wood and it will have enough power to push on through.. ?? Can't figure out why the further out the ram is the less power it has.. Oil level is good.. And my hydraulic chainsaw that I have plumbed into the system still cuts as strong as ever..

Did this just start happening? Check to see if it has enough oil in the reservoir when the ram is full out. It may be full when retracted but it sounds like you have no push at full out which means no oil to push

Just started today.. Haven't ran it for a couple of weeks.. The oil level looked fine. That was the first thing I checked.. I don't understand the motor wanting to stall out when it quits pushing.. Usually it just quits pushing( like in a big knot) but the motor still maintains its rpms..

pump starved for fluid- either not enough in system or feed line to pump blocked or collapsing , possible by pass valve section problem , internal seals in ram leaking, return line to tank problem as in maybe a blocked filter there. just some ideas. I think your main problem lies in the bypass portion of your valve- broken spring or stuck partway due to the load developing on the eng., but no pressure in the ram circuit.

Dump the fuel, install a new spark plug. Most likely the valve isn't fully actuating in the cycle and needs adjusted. That is a condition that will stall the cylinder and the motor when under load.

from this, it sounds a lot like a worn cylinder, or seals causing "blow by"... when adding the block it puts the piston in an area with less wear (rear of cylinder) making a tighter seal between cylinder and piston...new seals will likely take care if it, but may have to hone the cylinder to clean it up...

If it was bypass the engine wouldn't be stalling.

Stupid stuff like this is what happens when you #1 split when it's getting dark and #2 when you're getting senile . It was low on fluid, when I looked into the tank it looked full.. Well it was actually about 3 inches low.. Secondly.. I forgot to take the choke off... I know I'm a retard.. I don't see how it ran as well as it did.. Thanks for the suggestions!
