hello out there.
i'm thinking about starting a small tree outfit of my own and would like to hear about the positives and negatives. is it worth it? would not be able to compete with the bucket/crane/manpower companies. just a small one-ton/chipper operation. manual take-downs, cut backs, pruning, ornamentals, etc. would be the focus. any suggestions/horror stories/success stories?
Did the OP just delete his post?
Jeff
You guys scared him off!!!!
Read the post again and remember the forum you are in. I think we got a Joker or Pro-Troll!
Jeff :msp_confused:
Maybe a joker..... He's been around here 2 years longer than I.. If he's really in the biz, he's got to be joking...
You guys scared him off!!!!
Wha'd I say? I'z tryin to be friendly.:cool2:
....but I was thinking pro-troll jokester was a possibility.
I even sent him some rep that said welcome. Either way, if he's that timid we done did him one of dem dar favors.
hey out there,
i haven't logged in to the site for a few days. thanks for the replies. jeez. what's a pro-troll jokester? i started the thread to find out how much of a pain it is to start a business. just out of curiosity. that's all. honest. really.
f'd up editing it, got frustrated and bailed. sorry guys. ok, back to the subject at hand. been in the biz for 6 years, worked for a couple of companies with a long list of great people who i've learned a lot from. would love to get out there and do my own thing. i have my own climbing/rigging gear and saws. just a pick-up that would only be good for pricing and getting coffee. have a buddy with chip truck and chipper that i could rent. the company i currently work for frowns on side work (fair enough) so it would be all or nothing. would love to hear about the risks and rewards. insurance? equipment? taxes? where do babies come from?A pro troll jokester is someone that starts a thread, or starts nonsense in a thread, just for fun, pretending to not know near as much as he really does about the business.
Why'd you delete your post?
Owning your own business, tree care or otherwise is always a challenge. Plans are made the ball gets rolling and it seems there's always a new hurdle in front of you. If you can handle the surprises, think fast, keep your cool, and give a bunch of time (never ending) than go for it. But remember; things will not always go the way you want, you will need to be versatile and not easily discouraged. Best of luck which ever rout you take.
