the first i cut down on accident, didnt see that it was there until it was too late. the other one that i have is on a piece of pine and i got permission from the powers that be to cut it since it was threatening incoming airplanes at our local airport. anyone else seen these around?
they make great bookends

I have never seen them... But then again I live in Connecticut so actually finding one would be very odd.

The survey marker should be in the ground, likely a metal stake. If it is a survey monument it will likely also be encased with a poured cement casing.

The sign is normally to warn of its proximity, and for workers to be careful to not disturb it. (the sign itself is not a marker - or certainly nothing that would be considered one here).

I think the BM stands for "Bench Mark" Survey Marker.
