ive just scored a old school sthill 075 and its over heating spark plugs closing up the gap...any ideas
it idles ok and sounds like its running ok then starts backfiring then stops

Overheating means it is running too lean - this is bad as it can cook the saw.
In order I would check these out
Replace fuel filter and check H screw setting
Strip down and clean carb
Crank case pressure
