Not a bad saw if the price is in your range you cant go wrong with it should give you good results

Not a pro saw, but its a fairly large homeowners machine. I think the closet thing in a pro saw is currently the MS361, which I've heard good things about. I've also heard good about he 390, not alot of people use em, but I havent heard too much bad about em.

Thanks for the reply fellows.Carb has ajustable jets.Man she pritty quite and dont have much zip.Think I better dive into the muffler and open her up.Sounds to be restricked down pritty good.Might make a saw out of her yet .Thank again.Later.

not really, the 272, is a TOTALLY different animal, and at 72CCs compared to the 63 or so of the MS390, NOPE, no contest there.

371 has an inboard clutch, better antivibe, stock dogs are useless, dogs on a 272 are better. 272 is a tougher saw, 371 cannot take the same abuse/use but seems to have more power. Air cleaner easier to get to on the 71 Used both quite a bit, can't go wrong with any 200 series xp saws.

Check out the Dolmar PS-6400. More power, pro construction, just a tad heavier, upgradable to 80cc if the need ever were to arise, and the price is pretty comparable. Otherwise, the MS390 will cut a lot of wood.

I think the 390 is a good saw in the role for which it was designed, and that's as a large homeowner's saw. I owned a 310, and have run an 029 quite a bit, and I think this series of saw gets the job done with a good amount of reliability and enough power to get most jobs done. Where they fall short is on their power to weight ratio, and a shortness of power when it comes to long bars or timber applications. It's not a professional saw by design, but it doesn't mean it can't be used as such. It would just be too much saw to lug around and you'd be far better off with the 361 for the same power, and a 44 or 46 for larger work.
