If anyone collecting is interested, i saw a Stihl 010 today , asking price of $210 at this ol'warehouse shop.

All orange body (like 015 etc.), built with the anti-vibration of an 012 on an 009 chasis type strategy. Fair compression on the pull, and the chain turns as ya pull it; so no centrifigal clutch? It started up etc.

i thought all of those were gone, saw another one about 15 years ago and it looked ancient then!

Could you post a pic of that saw, with plate.
That would be interesting.

if the chain moves as you pull the rope I think its got something holding the clutch in the engaged position. not too many if any Stihl saws were DIRECT drive from the crankshaft to the sprocket, with no clutch.

I had to go and have a look at mine first, and yes they have clutch. Sadly both have broken coil, but i ran one of them a few times, funny little thing.

i'll try to get back out that way in the latter part of the week with camera.

Here is Cheaper 010 i spotted on Ebay .

i had to guess about clutch as 010 is too old to be listed in my Stihl parts and repair manuals on CD that i got off Ebay (is great but didn't see one presently, when i did quick check). That lil CD fer ~$10, is great! Though i have about 10 Stihls (covers trimmers, cut off saws etc. too). Even the parts breakdown charts are handy to have, and going in to dealer with proper parts numbers does make things quicker!
