Stihl 026 serial number location?

I am sure this has been posted before, but the search function isn't working for me.

I just had a stihl 026 with a scored piston given to me. I just wonder where I can locate the serial number.

right above the bucking spike next to the exhaust. Its usually covered in carbon, oil and sawdust.
There is a milled flat where STIHL stamps the #

Scrape it with a small brass brush or just a toothbrush and some mixed fuel. That cleans it nicely, and a magnifying glass helps to read it as well. Sometimes it's upside down.

Interesting that the 026 and 028 are on the same side. However, the 025 has the serial number on the other side of the muffler. They show up in several places. That number translation and coding fascinates me. Anybody have a URL to a site that shows the translation scheme?
