There is no "float". It's diaphragm style carb. If it starts and run well, it's not your metering diaphragm. Try adjusting your L screw to 1 turn out from gently seated, and turning up you LA. If that doesn't work, try turning up the L screw to say 1 5 turns. if it idles at 1.5, you should be looking for an air leak in the impulse line, boot or seals.
If the carb L progression jets are blocked (unlikely), the best way to deal with that is to disassemble the carb and clean it in an ultrasonic cleaner. If you don't have access to one, soak it in Naphtha for a few hours. Avoid blasting air though the carb jets it or you'll ruin the H check valve. You can blow gently though...
You also may have a cracked impulse line - Does it idle for a few seconds after you throttle down, or die immediately?.
