The story goes like this: My son scored a pair of Stihl 031av's recently from an older
gentleman (a true gentleman I might add) that were used very lightly, put aside and
when needed again could not be started. He then bought saw #2 and the result was
more or less the same except he took it apart, bought carbs, clutch etc. (have all extras)
First saw and older of the two is near perfect, in fact I believe the original old school Stihl bar is
on her (although I am no expert like the fellas all over AS). It is such a nice saw I just don't ever
see myself using it. I think it should be put on a shelf and admired. It has the case which is what I
strongly believe to be early case used by Stihl but no name imprinted on it (saw # 2 has same case)
He got her to idle and idle she did (oiler worked as well) - last time we halfheartedly tried we could not.
With others to tinker with she sits. I would love to paint muffler but want to leave it stock (we did order
fuel line though) - He wants me to keep it because he sees how much I love the look of it yet to fund his next
purchase, tools so forth I think selling it makes sense. So here I am, new AS member with a nice example
of this particular model saw on the trading post.
I have never sold anything in this manner before. It's worth is unknown to me. So while I have a general
idea what it's value may be, to a collector perhaps a tad more. I will attach pictures and answer all questions
as best I can. I live in Connecticut and would love to sell locally but that's not likely to be a big market.
Keep in mind it will be funding my 15 year old son's interest in saws/tinkering/business. If in the tristate area
come on by for a beer and chat, see her for yourself.
*btw - new chain in that box is 3/8 with a gold link. Not sure if it's original to saw. Sure looks mean though.
It should be noted I've only cut with green link (homeowner) chains over the years
**Also have almost perfect owners manual not pictured that the owner found and mailed to me.
