I am repairing a friends 038 Mag.,that tried to ingest its piston.SOOOO ,I need a piston,1119-030-2002 [ 52 mm ,the big one],and a flywheel side bearing 9503-003-1880 and seal 9640-003-1340 .I was surprised as it didn't damage the cylinder at all .I may have under estimated the Nikasol coating .Give me a shout if you have any parts you want to part with.

Al,

I've been told that the crank bearings are 6202 and 6203. Have yet to verify that myself.

There was a discussion a ways back about aftermarket parts.

Look for the links in this thread. Piston would be about $40. I'd get the seal and cylinder gasket at Stihl. In my experience, that's about the best quality part around. I got an aftermarket gasket set--base gasket was junk, seals are fine, but I wonder...

You are probably right on the bearings,my dealers manual[1990],didn't list them, under the number I gave, and I didn't check the updated list. Now that I think about it,one dealer told me I could no longer get a clutch side bearing for an 048,but another dealer found it under a different number, hmm.

Be carefull just using the 6202 or 6203 reference as a part number. That will just get you to the basic size class for the bearing, and you can get that generic type from any hardware store, but it's not for a saw.

You also have to worry about the cage construction, fit (loose, normal, tight, etc), shields (or lack thereoff), temperature stabilization and other parameters. If you want to match them to available bearings, take them into bearing warehouse to cross reference them for you, or do the hard work yourself on the web. I don't have an 038 on the shelf to look at, but in SKF terms, it's likely a 6202 (or 6203) TN9/C3 type - "loose fit, polyamide cage, 150 C temperature stabized", etc). Each bearing manf. has their own way of describing the various optional characteristics. FAQ would refer to the SKF type as 6202 TVH.C3

I've used a number of the Ebay kits (Non-Tecomec), and although these sure look like Stihl parts, I don't believe they are. As best I can determine, they are Chinese counterfeits - counterfeit 'cos they duplicate the exact Stihl logo and Marle casting numbers to pass them off as genuine. I've noticed that the wrist pins are a little looser than Stihl's (no need to heat the piston, they just push in easily by hand) and the rings don't have the same markings as those from Stihl. The bores look good but sometimes the finish inside the ports is rougher. I did get some pistons that were 0.5mm too wide in the wrist pin gap...

While I was researching this a while back I did find the Chinese manf. web site offering the kits in lots of 500 or more.

1) Anyone have any recent experience with these kits?
2) Anyone know with any precision the country of origin
3) Has anyone used them "hard", like all day/every day?
