Hello everyone, I'm helping out a buddy with his 044 that hasn't been running well. I would like to replace his carburetor with a new carburetor. (I personally do not care for rebuilding them).
Currently his 044 has a stock Zama carburetor on it. I have done some digging and I cannot confirm which zama model# carburetor this is.
Can someone tell me which Zama model # this is? Or... Can someone tell me the next best replacement model# to use? Basically just need to know the best model# so I can order a new one. Thank you so much for your help. This forum has been awesome be in the past and saved me much time and money.

I'd at least throw an $8 kit at it before finding a new zama. The chinese ones are hit or miss on quality and an actual zama is going to cost 3-5 times as much as the kit. If it runs and the carb isn't corroded internally all you normally need to do is blow out the passages with brake cleaner and put a new diaphragm in it and reset the needles.

Thanks for all of the replies, with all that inspiration about the rebuild kit, I will go ahead and try it. I just posted a couple pics of the carb. Does anyone know which rebuild kit# I need? Thank you!

You’re pretty close to removing it, should be able to pull it out and find some kind of identifying numbers

Zama RB-31 kit, it will give you every thing you could possibly need.
Just clean the carb good and replace the diaphrams and not worry about replacing Welch plugs. Use the new needle, check for wear on the needle arm and reuse (since it will be set close) if in good shape,if not replace and readjust.

The RB-31 is not the right kit, it is the RB-36. Zama carbs used on the 044 are (depending on the country):
C3M-S5G, S12, S5E, S20, S22, S23, S24
Have a look on the Zama site and you will see the models listed.

Good catch....I believe the 31 is for the 034-036.... going from memory......which isn’t very good.
Sorry about the miss information....
And thanks for correcting me DND 9000!!

The diaphragms would work along with the needle but the Welch plugs would be different if he happen to need them....always good to get the right kit instead of making one work....;)

Take carb apart and put it in a glass jar with premix and let it soak over night then blast it down with brake cleaner blow out with compressed air and put new carb kit on it I bet she'll run like new again provided there know air leaks.

GO EASY with any compressed air. Be mindful that there is probably a pretty delicate check valve in there. High PSI compressed air through that will make sure you have to buy a new carb.

Rb 36 is the kit I used. Try ebay
