I recently acquired a stihl 044 with a carb that has limiter caps. The carb has limiter caps that are recessed in the a casting on the carb body. How can the limiter caps be removed so I can adjust the saw. The saw stalls sometimes when going from an idle to operating power.

I have a husky 372 with the same thing. However just recently I discovered how to defeat them. No more going to the dealer to adjust the carb!

I'll try and take some pics this weekend of the how its done on the 372. I'm sure the 044 is different.

On my saw there is a sleeve with a slot that goes over each of the jet screws, the slot prevents the screw for being turned more than an 1/8th.

There is a white plastic piece on the screw with a tab that fits in the sleeve slot. I pop the sleeve back so its out of the way.

Now the white plastic piece has to be slid about a 1/8th of an inch back away from the carb just so it comes off the spline on the jet screw. Now I can turn the jets without the white plastic piece turning and limiting the rotation.

I do a bit of milling with an alaskan and like to run the saw a bit richer when its ripping for a couple minutes in a cut.

Hi
I find that those plastic tabs are not very durable. They always fall out on my shop floor.

Are you suggesting that I just keep turning them until the plactic cracks? I pulled the carb and the problem is they are recessed into the casting of the carb.
