A few months back the oiler on my 048 stopped working. After research, I found that I couldn't get all the parts from Stihl because the saw is old and they only made the saw for about a year. Mine runs like a top and has always given me good service so I tried to get it fixed. Oh yea, I might add that after having two different shops look at the saw and try to fix the oiler and couldn't, that thanks to this web-site, I took the saw apart myself and put my air hose up to the oil hole under the pump and it has been working ever since. Oh yea, did I mention that in the meantime I was talked into buying a new 440 Mag. Now I'm trying to get the 048 reconditioned. I need a chain sprocket cover, part number 117 648 0400, help, thanks.

Most 042 parts interchange as far as I know. I have seen a fair amount of them on ebay and now and then a 048. Might try picking up some parts saws.
I used the 048 at my part time job and have very high regards for it and often wonder why they didn't produce and sell more of them.

I always thought the 042/048 oilers were the same units found on the 038/031/045/056. And there are tons of these out there. The only thing that would probably be different is the big gear driven by the clutch drum.
