I'm new on here, posted a time or two, mainly taking in the awesome info this site has to offer, ten times better then hanging out in my favorite saw shop:)!!! This question might sound a bit stupid, but I'm no mega mechanic on my own saw.. I have a Stihl 064 which I love, my next addition is going to be an 066, I've always wanted one and a local shop often gets nice used ones traded in (he goes over them, and is very good about service)... My question is: Do parts interchange on both saws?? If so would it be worth me finding an 064 or 066 for a parts saw?? Thanks, Steve

There are quite a few parts shared between the two, but there are just as many that are unique to each model. There is also a number of differences between earlier and later models of both. If you get a parts saw, some of the parts will work for both, some will noly work for one or the other, and some may work for neither. Your best bet for interchanging them between both saws and the donor is to make sure they are all early or late models of each.

The original 066 (with the metal flywheel) does have a lot of parts that interchange with the 064. The newer 066 MS660 (with poly flywheel) still has some parts that interchange, but you would have to be specific on which parts. The 064 and 066 use different oilers, different crankcases but the old 066 and the 064 share the same crankshaft. Won't fit on the new 066 though. If you want to know a specific part let us know.
