The clutch springs have worn groves in the shoes. I put new
set of springs on awhile back but can still here shoes & drum clang
together a little........This is 066 that I put a crank in and did'nt
want to spend any more money on it until it looked like it was good.

So what to look for to tell if it needs a new clutch hub?

E-bay, new shoes $32 W/shipping, new clutch $53 W/shipping.

If I don't need a new hub.........$20 will buy me Stihl 24" loop
 
If the holes are elongated to the point where new springs won't help.. time for new shoes, but likely a new spyder also.. (loose fit on shoes).... So... new clutch time..

I might have a decent used clutch in my drawer..

For those of you that have never seen this... and it's hard to see with the springs in..

Color balance is wrong (too blue), but you get the idea..
 
Lake, I bought a NEW clutch today.......but will the old ding,ding,ding
clutch hurt any thing if I keep running that way?......chain dose not turn
at idle.........just that damn DING, DING, DING and its not loud, with
ear plugs I don't hear it.
 
Think like most of the logger's I service for... Clutch? damn nuisance even having one, and if it hasn't broken off, keep running it...:jester:

Seriously.. it won't hurt short term... but do try to find out what the problem is.

Ok, New clutch will go on. along with the new crank, crank bearings, seals
pistion & rings, piston bearing, carb kit, gas & oil filter, vent flapper,
starter rope, starter rope bushing, rewind spring, starter pawls, clutch drum, rim sprocket and spark plug.........Hmmmmm I guess thats why my wife calls
it the MONEY PIT SAW :)

I have a MS660 in the shed with less than 5 tanks run through it.
Dealer did give a cut on parts.......new crank came from ebay $125

Once I got started...............

Dodge..............Sad to say but Mule is right.....just need to have it Gold Plated now :laugh:

Kind of funny, when I woke up I remembered....New gas cap, carb limiter caps
and roller chain catcher also........Dodge someone in your neck of the
woods is damn hard on saws. This is one of the 066 that came from
AK Small Engine Works
 
They aren't quite in my neck of the woods but close. Sounds like an omish or mennonite mighta had that saw, they could break water.

We ought to get toghether when I get my million dollar 064 done and break 'em in toghether.

Just kind of odd that we are about 40 miles apart and both redoing parts saws. :monkey:

Sounds good..........Only trouble on my end, all of my bigger wood is
tagged for milling.......Its so hard to keep from cutting it up into
COOKIES :chainsaw:
