I rebuilt an 066 over the summer, its running awsome, but it seems to have a problem with the oiler keeping up. Its running almost 1 tank of oil pertank of gas, yet the chain still looks a little dry. I have the oiler setting maxed out. Anybody have any ideas?

The saw is turning at 12,ooo rpm

I am running a 24", and a 36" stihl rollomatic bars, with 3/8 chisel chain.

Thanks,
Matt

Thanks for the response, but its a brand new chain, fresh out of the box, and throwin big chips like mad. Both chains, the 36, and the 24. At a gues, it will rip through a 24" black oak in less than 10 secs or so.

Some of that wood was really dry and dead though, maybe thats absorbing more of the oil than a solid tree would.

Thanks though

Matt

If you are using a tank to a tank, nothing is wrong with the oiler. The dry wood will definitely do it. And remember, there is sharp, and there is SHARP. Strive for the second one and you will see a difference. I have had new chains that cut better after the first filing.

You could check the bar mounting for sawdust between the bar and the motor. That would let the oil go between the bar and the motor, not into the bar where it is needed.

I have an 046 that goes through 1 tank of oil to 2 tanks of mix and the adjuster is maxxed out. The bar is not dry or burned but it seems that it should pump a little more oil than it does. I am using an oregon bar if that matters. Any suggestions? Thanks Lucky

10-4 that R Squirrel. I figured oil consumption was down for enviro reasons. And I don't buy bars from stihl because of the insane markup. I know they need to make a living but I need minimize expenses too. $60+tax for a 20 inch bar = I don't think so.

I still want to know how to increase oil flow to the bar. Does drilling a larger hole in the bar really help?
