Fellas, I'm doing some grinding on a 084 cylinder and thinking about the intake tonsil and what does it do?
My 088 does not have one and the pistons are the same.
Does anyone have experience with removing the thing or strong opinions on removal or retaining?
Thanks in advance

I haven't torn into an 084, but I'm guessing the bottom ring could intrude into the intake port on the 084. Does the ring gap on the bottom ring line up with that tonsil?

If the ring doesn't protrude into the intake, you could remove the tonsil. Another possibility is you could just run the top ring. Either way, most of the flow/velocity is happening when the bottom of the port opens, so I doubt the tonsil is hurting performance that much.
