I am trying to change the bar mount on my Stihl 08S it can use m6 x 20 or m6 x 30 bar studs, not sure what the standard bar studs are, any help would be much appreciated , regards thanks David.

Thanks for your message that would be great , I see the sizes available for 08s are m6 x 12 ,m6 x 20 and m6 x 30 , quite interesting ,I also know that step studs are available, used to know how to look them up, have forgotten how regards thanks David

Buzz Sawyer is correct. M6 should be M8 and the collar screw's thread length into the case is longer than 20 mm and shorter than 30 mm. I cannot recall Stihl ever using an M6 threaded collar screw for the bar nut or inside the case. Therefore, I have to wonder where OP got his figures. :dizzy:

This saw was introduced way back in 1965, so I suppose an M6 collar screw is possible. Several brands of small saws used them. Metric threads were not even that common back then.

I believe metric threads were extremely common back then- in the country of origin- like from about 1872.
