Well, got a good deal on a new Stihl 30" ES .375 bar, less than
$50 to my door. Looked on Stihl's web site, shows it takes
97 drivers.....................NO it's 98, Bought two chains
before I received the bar, Bar calls for 98 drivers, 97 will not work!

So, did Stihl change the sprocket.......and I bought NOS bar?
Was going to try it, in the morning................Guess not.

I definitely remember reading the same thing about the 28" bar - 91 or 92 drive links but darned if I can find where I read that. I think it was related to the number of teeth in the sprocket tip - and therefore, it's size. :dizzy:

Link is where I got the 97 drivers from, mine is .063 gauge

Yeah, that's what it says. But page 31 of my 2003 bar and chain guide says 98. I don't own a 28" or 30" bar so I have no experience with either. My 24/25 all take the normal 84 and my 32 takes 105. I was making up a little cheat sheet for me a few weeks ago and in reading came across the 91/92 tidbit but, like i said, don't remember where. Don't think it was online though - hidden in some corner of a PDF...

I'd send you a couple drivelinks but I don't run 3/8, .063...

My 24/25" work better with 85 drivers, on 8 tooth sprockets

Or I should say, it's easier for me to get the chain on.

I will take the chains back, ask dealer to add a link to each chain

Had same issue with my Oregon 42". Ordered 2 chains with it at the specified 135 links. Yep, takes 136. Bailey's sent me 10 links and 4 connectors for free. Added the singles, hit a nail the first day and boogered up a few teeth, and used the remaining chain to fix it. Those guys must have ESP or something.
