I have

a 260 with 48.7 displacement and 3.5 hp. piston 44
a 360 with 61.5 displacement and 4.4 hp. piston 48

I am looking at the 361 on the Stihl web site and noticed that although it has 4.4 hp, same as the 360, its displacement is only 59.0 and its also lighter, 12.3 versus 12.5 for the 360. I cannot find a parts list that gives me the piston size for the 361, is it actually smaller than the 360? And yet has the same hp?

I don't know about the piston size in particular, but yes, by tuning it well they have been able to get the same output with 2 cc's less.

I have a question, I understood the ms260/026 to have the specs that you listed quite impressive. On stihls website the 260 has a displacement of 50.2 cc and 3.2hp. Does any one know when and why these numbers changed, I guess the epa was involved?

Thanks; it figures. Based upon that, I guess the new 260 must have a smaller piston than the older ones too.

I think the new 260's have a 45mm bore compared to the older 44mm.
It is 44.7 mm according to a resent post in another tread, and I think that number adds up with 50.2cc.
