I went to my stihl dealer the other day to get files and bolts/nuts for my outside dawgs for the 440/460. I asked if they could order me the dual port muffler from stihl for my 440 and 460. He said that they quit making them and they only had one and it was for the 460 and they wanted $68.00 for it. My question is did stihl quit making the DP mufflers? And I thought that $68.00 was a little high when somebody on here said they bought them for $30.00.:)

I can't say for sure, since it's been a couple years since I bought one, but I'd imagine he might be giving you a line. Yeah, 68 bucks is a lot. The ones for the 066 are generally more expensive, and my local super expensive dealer didn't even want that much for one of those. I'd check around a bit. Of course Lakeside will give you the right answer, which makes me saying anything a little useless.

The other day at the dealer the 660 DP cover was $40. Dont know about your 440/460 though.

When I bought my 066, I tried a DP cover and didn't buy it because it is way louder. But a buddy that was buying an 046 at the same time said, "cool, I'll take one of those for mine." He loves the noise, and I hate it.

Stihl NorthEast MSRP is 30.35, and yes they are available. The whole muffler is around 68. Tell him you would just like to purchase the the front cover as that is all you need.

The whole thing

It was the whole muffler, forgot to say that. Sorry. I'll ask him if I can just have the cover. And should I search around on the other stihl dealers for one for my 440? As you know cutting timber you can never have too much power!  :)

thanks

If I can't find one I WILL let you know. I would really like to put a manufactured one on it. I could customize one my self but if I can get a manufactured one I will. I sorta thought they where the same cover for them both. But just asked to make sure. :)

Will that dual port fit the 044??? If so does anyone have a picture to post so I can see one. I just removed the screen on mine (side port) and used a die grinder and doubled the size of the hole in the muffler. The idle went up enough to get the chain going maybe a bit more, sure cuts good!!!
Thanks.
