400-500 is a good range for saws 046/460 that look and run really good. Some go higher and some go lower on ebay. And you always have to beware of the saws on ebay.....

its true that you have to be aware of junk on ebay, but i sell alot of good stuff on ebay. 400 to 500 is fair for a good 046. check the persons satisfaction rating, if its below 95% dont deal with them. i just bought a log truck off ebay, gotta go pick it up in nc this weekend., soo ill let you know whats up with it
Ebay is full of repaint rebuilds.....Buyer beware!!!!!!!!!! Whats in the picture might not be what you get...

Not always. I have sold lots of saws on ebay and they have not been junk. Of course I include things like pics of the compression readings and all the little damage (if any) so everything is known up front. I wouldn't buy many saws on ebay.
Clean covers that look new on an old saw usually mean a repaint....I have never painted anything that has been sold. Only my own stuff such as my red light 066 that was restored and my 084. But they are not for sale. unless it is a new saw, beware of "new" looking beat up saws
Thanks for the replies. Don't think it was a repaint unless the saw was used again after the repaint. Seller had 96 feedback replies with a 99& rating. Only complaint was some fragile items arrived broken.
So far I've been pretty lucky on Ebay. Four or five years ago got my 034 there. Last fall picked up a new in the box 455 rancher. I know it's frowned on here, but for $250 I thought it was a decent deal.

i bought my 084 off ebay it runs and cuts just like it was new. i buy alot of bar/chains etc some of the stuff is junk i try to bid on things with alot of pictures . and the person selling has to have a high score and good feedback.

I've bought and sold alot of car parts on ebay, but only bought 1 saw, And the guy didn't lie to me, he said it ran good, and it did. He forgot to mention however that it didn't oil, it was missing some screws and several of the screws that were present were in holes that had very little threads left....and it was supposed to have a new bar and chain...new chain, new paint on an old bar. But with a little blue loctite, now at least the carburetor doesn't fall off anymore!!!
