Thinking about getting a gas powered drill and sherril tree has the echo gas-powered drill on there but... IM A STIHL MAN!!! haha anyone know if the stihl bt 45 can handle a half inch bit?? anyone use one for bracing or guying?

should handle a half inch bit easily.... smallest bit you can get from stihl for the bt45 (in the u.k at least) is a foot long half inch bit, so if it couldnt handle that the foot and a half long, inch dia bit would be slightly redundant

Yup, we use that combo all the time, 18" by 1/2" Dia. drill bit on the drill, and it goes through just about anything with relative ease. Its when a bit gets bent/dull that you really have to fit it through the wood. :chainsaw:

Ditto, I got the longer bit also but thats too long really.

run with it,,,, 2 speeds and reverse.. use standard 1/2 bits ,,, and home made bits up to 5 foot long....

only problem i have , is with the home mades ... shank is round ,, instead of a hex,, so the key less chuck will slip...the long home made bits will bow,, and get jammed up... keep a set of pliers to back the bit out,,, then start again !!! jmho

just a thought,,, i'd recomend it for bracing,, rodding or thru bolt... wouldn't use it for cabling, using J LAGS....my partner got lazy,, and cabled an ASH with the drill.. the LAG popped out in three days.... BRACE and BIT for cabling !!!! to easy to let the gas drill wobble,,and muck the hole up,,, where as a brace will bore a true hole.. jmho
