So Stihl markets this "Oilmatic" match system between their chain and bars.
Question is, lets say I want to try some Oregon saw chain, is it going to oil the bar, drivers, and drive links as well as my current Oilomatic setups?

For those of you that use/have used Sthil saws with chain other than Stihl, what were your impressions if any on the dispersement of oil?

Also, who makes a good chisel chain and what model #'s should I look at.
Full comp only, no skippin. 3/8", .050
18" on 360 PRO
20"-24" on 460 MAG

Thanks all-

Are we going to need a "Drew" forum? :)

I believe that system refers solely to the channels in the side of their drivers. Some other chains I've seen have had holes to carry oil further and I believe Oregon has bulging sideplates to act as reservoirs. I've used other chains and they all worked well on the Stihl bars. Other bars work well with the Stihl chain, as well.

Nice pair of Stihls. I've got the same small saw, but my big'n is an 066.

Thanks Glen-

Such a helpful guy. Yeah I have been pretty active on here as of late. Work is slow as hell, just trying to pass some time and fill the void in my brain with knowledge of chainsaws and related materials!

I figured they would all work well though.

An 066 hunh? When I was looking between the 440 and 460 I picked up a 660 for sh!ts and giggles and that IS A LOT OF SAW! I couldnt imagine what an 088 feels like! Plus the $$$ tag made my head spin!!!

Thanks again-
Drew

Drew,

The Oregon chain that you would want is 72LG. Depending on where you buy chain it may be much less expensive than comparable Stihl chain. Many will be quick to argue that Stihl chain is better but that`s pure BS in my opinion. I think that Stihl chain with it`s sligtly thicker chrome may hold an edge slightly better in clean wood but it rocks out just the same as anybody else`s. On a normal day, Stihl chain is 80% more costly for me so the choice for me is obvious. Try this link:Commercial Cutters Direct
