Getting Frustated with my dealer:confused: I ordered a 3/8 skiptooth loop for my 28" bar about a month ago, dealer tells me its on backorder from stihl in Virginia. Also got a new hardhat around the same time and turned out one of the clips on the suspension was broken, said he would get a new one coming, says its on backorder too. Does this seem right? I can understand a new suspension for the helmet but a chain??? Seems there distributor would have a loop of skiptooth on hand, I mean its not that odd of a request is it?

Also was going to see about trading the MS280 (I know homeowner grade junk, thats why I want rid of it) for an MS260. Dealer didn't have one in, and said they were backordered too? He knows I just bought a mill, and need the Items I'm after. Have done several thousand dollars worth of business a year with him for several years, so don't imagine he's trying to get rid of me. Small dealer though and has said he wont order tell he has enough to get free shipping. This could be the problem I guess, I don't mind heloping him out and waiting a week or two to help him out, but over a month, thats just not god business.

Anyone else having problems with backorders or shipping from stihl??

And yes Husky guys I know you can order one of yours online, or from Bailey's. Might switch over if problems persist, but no shops near here I know of, and I'd rather throw a busted saw on the dealers bench than mine, and get back to work and making money than tinkering with a broken saw. Just my personal preference, I can make more an hour than what the shop charges for their time so...

Have you offered to pay for the shipping charge so your order won't be sitting around on his desk? I also have a hard time believing a chain is back-ordered for a month. Stihl charges a premium price for their products with the understanding that they will have superior service. Having a chain unavailable doesn't seem to fit this model.

back order

i was in at my sthil dealer on monday. he told me that they closed down the warehouse in columbus. he told me it takes a little longer to get orders in, but it was still with in a week or so.

Parts backorders happen for time to time, but it's unusual for "common" parts to be unavailable for more then a few days. If it's not stocked in your regional warehouse, it come from Virginia beach. If unavailable there, it come from the closest source world wide (shipped though your regional center to the dealer).

Dealers get a weekly Fax (when there is a problem) showing the backorder status of units (saws etc). Katrina is still affecting the supply of some models of the smaller saws, but even these are measured in "a week or two". The MS260-Pro is also affected right now. Get it on order and have him call his sales office for an ETA.

I order and get 3/8 skip all the time (it's our most popular pro chain) and never have had a backorder. It might depend on where you are in the country, but even then it's only a couple of days for Stihl to trans-ship it.

After working for several years at a poor stihl dealer, I know the vocabulary.
Either the business is so poor, or they are so disorganized, that they do not have enough business to make an order yet, and the backorder word is just a way to stall you.
But mostly, in my case, it meant that the owner hasn't paid the bill lately, so the parts guy is left to come up with something.
But to be fair, skip tooth is not common here as well as helmets, or their clips, and Bryan may not have them in stock, so who knows. If you need the
number for Bryan Equip. in Cinn. they are the distributor. Ask them.

my bad
