I got a more or less completely disassembled saw from my coworker; he said he thought it was an 066 but when he dropped it off, my heart sank to see it’s a clamshell.

Based on the following, can someone help me identify what model it is and when it was made.

Serial number: 247833957
Case part number: 1127 021 0700
Cylinder part number: 1127-029 (this is strange because I don’t see the typical last four digits).

Thanks for any insight.

Ps the piston is scored but the cylinder looks salvageable. I was hoping to fix me up a 66 but might just part this one out.

1127 indicates a 029/039 ms290/390 model line

The beginning of the part number is the series number. Here is a list of prefixes, called series number.Looks like an 066. I copied this from someone else so I take no credit or blame. Hope this helps.

Split cas and clamshell in same series

My only thought is they are the newest of the new and it’s different now.
Stihl never had a tried and true way to id pro and non pro saws by sight. Guess not with numbers now either.

While we are on the subject, when did Stihl change from a six digit serial number to a seven digit number? I picked up an old Stihl on letgo.com for the bar and chain, which were nearly new. The saw is scrap and missing the top cover but appears to be an 050. The number is 2828877. The serial number plate is in perfect condition, the paint is perfect. My dealer could not search a six digit number. Any help would be appreciated. BTW I have not tried to disassemble the saw, I plan on it being a give away at the Nor Cal GTG in November.

Edited to add: I did search this subject but I could not find the answers I need.

Edited again to add: Can I run 50:1 in this saw?

I'm kidding!
