stihl model plate removal

does anyone have any tried n true methods for the stihl model plate removal that is on the top cover? seems that any method i try i damage either the top cover or plate or both. i have a good plate on a bad cover and a bad plate on a good cover. need to switch them w/o damage.

Drill the BACK of the rivits out (just shallow cut to take the flare off), then punch then though from the back.

Howdy 1953greg,

I would turn the cover upside down, put on a piece of wood for backing and center punch the rivets and then drill them out. Never done a model plate before but have drilled lots of holes in other things. Good luck.

If they're the plastic ones you can gently pop them off.

gotem switched. the glue was tougher than expected but it finally gave up w/ a kitchen table knife.
