ok so you may have seen my thread in the chain saw section but here is a simple version of the story. my grandma had a stihl 180c 14 b&c for years, as long as i can remember (im 17) went down got band aid fixed went down again guy said it was broke and then tried to take it from us. i got it back and it sat in the shed for 2 years before i started to tinker with it today as its a no school day and i am bored. turned out the screen on the muffler was packed full of crap and after 15 mins of soaking the entire muffler in kerosene, then gas becuase kerosene wasnt doing it. i scrubbed it for like 5 minutes with a paper towel and its clean. it now runs like a champ but smokes like crazy due to the kerosene residue but still works none the less.
was wondering if anyone could give me some basic info on it and if it was a good saw or not. grandma has decided to buy a new stihl this summer and gave me this 180c for the half hour of trouble i spent working on it. i am wondering if there is anything i can do to make it put out some more power and be capable of handling a little bigger bar, like a 16 inch bar or an 18 inch bar (that might be a long shot though). and wondering if it is a generally good well built saw or not.
the plans are to use it to cut up some evergreen trees that we dont burn in the fire place because of the sap, to sell to city people who like the smell and will burn it in their outdoor fire pit
