Stihl Ms 290 Muffler modifications

I have a stihl MS 290 It runs good but is lacking power in the BIG cuts. I was wondering if anyone had information on how to properly port the muffler to give it more power where you need it.

Hi Justin,

It looks like the experts on the ms290 haven`t been in yet so you might try a search for 029 or ms290 muffler mods. I know that there is atleast one thread, by jet mechanic as I recall, covering this particular topic.

Take a look at this thread. I go into detail how I modded a 290 muffler. This mod makes a real difference. Be forewarned..........the saw is real loud after the mods.

Stihlman brought one over he did a while ago, it WANTED more wood. Quite impressive, actually.
