Firstly, the forum is in Spanish now? What has happened?

More importantly, my MS 660 worked well a year ago. No issues, it is only going on 3 years old.

Now, after getting it out, it wont start at all.

New gas - check
Spark - check . Plug is new also.
Clean carb - check

I even resorted to taking the spark plug out putting some petrol (and later some ether) in the cylinder trying it then. Not even a bang. Which for the life of me I cant understand. I have fuel, a spark, great compression... it should at least go bang once.

I have cleaned the carb again (and again), it is like glass in there, clean as a whistle.

New gas again.

It just wont go or even fire.

Any ideas?

very bottom of page left hand side you will see an option that says spanish, scroll that back to english. did the same thing recently, everything was in persian.

Fuel, spark, and air.

My first thought was bad gas, but you said that you used fresh stuff. You have a spark. Only thing left in my bag of tricks is making sure that you are getting air. Clogged filter?

(Unless it's flooded?)

A saw that won't start is one of the more frustrating things. Subscribing to hear what others can suggest.

(The Columbo return . . . one more thing . . .)

How about replacing the spark plug? Even if you are getting a spark at the electrode, maybe it is a weak spark, the gap is wrong, or there is a hairline crack or . . . . ? It's only a buck or 2.

When you pulled the plug the first time, was it wet with fuel? If it was wet, you flooded the saw. If you tried to start it with the choke on beyond the first pop, which sometimes isn't heard, it's flooded.

After dumping some fuel down the plug hole it's best to hold it wide open with the choke off and it can take quite a few pulls depending on how much fuel you put in. At least get it on fast idle you cant hold it wide open. Steve

Always wanted to shoot a sika - do you still call them japs?

Now, if your 660 has compression, spark, some fuel in the cylinder and you can pull the starter 20 times and still don't get it to fire, then your timing is out. About the commonest way that happens is a sheared flywheel key. If it is not sheared I am betting the saw is flooded.

If you can't get it to run after checking all that, ship it over the Tasman and I will fix it for free. Or a guided sika hunt. :)

When I took the plug out she was wet.

Must be flooded... I cant see the flywheel key being sheared because when I put her down a year ago she was going fine.

I have left the plug out overnight and letting it all dry out.

It is 3.45am and I am just about to head off to try and spotlight a jap (sika) in a pine forest not far from home. Need some venison.

If she's flooded real bad leave the plug out and pull it over a few times, like you where going to start her, with the throttle wide open, should clear all the crud from the crankcase out. Many times when they get flooded bad there is fuel in the case... then just go ahead and replace the old plug. Then with no choke and the throttle wide open pull until you hurt something or she fires... support the bar across something like a log and hold the throttle with your right hand and pull with your left. you'll see... (its the modified drop start.... or the old school method for huge saws...)

Coil coulda gone bad as well, have you measured compression, and checked the Coil resistance with a multimeter? Might just need to bring it back to Lowes and have them check it out:msp_biggrin:

*** FIXED *** Stihl MS 660 wont start - after storage for a year.

After reading many post of this type I came to the conclusion that it must be flooded.

First pull, took out plug... ...wet. Flooded.

But it wasn't me flooding it I figured. Hmmm..

Carbi must be next.

Pulled the inlet side apart (from page 77 of the service manual). Took out the inlet needle and cleaned that area and needle up real good.

Installed.... first pull....

THE MONSTER IS ALVIE!!!!..... love that sound!!!

Also shot a jap spiker yesterday at dawn.

Hope this helps someone else. Thanks for the advice team!
