Could use a little help here,..
Today pulled out my 5 year old Stihl MS250C...checking it over for the season (yard work, etc).. well in the process of pulling the spark plug boot off the coiled spring decides to stay on the plug.
I figured I broke the boot off the lead. Well I take the starter cord recoil cover off the saw to see how the lead is made hoping it was replaceable, well I jumped too quick and pulled the coil off the saw before measuring the gap.:dizzy:
So I could use some guidance in the correct gap between the flywheel magnets and the coil on this model.

Also discovered the boot end had not broken off. The saw has this coiled spring with a sharp leg that pokes into the spark plug lead. I'd never seen this spring coil type design inside a boot before. My question on this is the hole poked in the lead is not dead center on the lead more to the side..Should I poke a new hole that goes right into the stranded conductors in the lead..to get the best possible connection?

Thanks
Ken...

Use a business cars between the coil and magnets -8 to 10 thou - loosen coil, insert card, rotate FW to clamp magnets to the coil, tighten (careful...), remove card.

Make a new SMALL hole... with a scribe or similar. Squeeze the tip in with pliers.

However.... dont pull out the old wire -just loosen the coil, pull the wire UP, attach the end, pull the wire down...

Thanks Lakeside 53

Thanks for the tips...,I already pulled the coil and lead out and realized the error of that about 10 seconds after I did it! Luckily I can rethread the lead pretty easily..there is just enough give in the surrounding plastic to allow me to get the lead back in the proper channels.
