Hey everyone

I need some help.
Working on a Stihl MS361 - it won't run as it should.

I changed - fuel line, pickup filter, impulse hose.
Cleaned out carb and new diaphrams etc.

Tried other carb, from working MS361 - worked better but still dies in idle, and sometimes just cuts off.
The original carb runs poorly, jumps to high speed and dies.

Pressure and vac tested - passed.
It had a leak from one of the oil pump screws, but after tightening it passed the vac/pres test.

Piston is clean and smooth.

Still no change in behavior.
Starts - runs a bit, dies in idle and is hard to startup again.

I am out of ideas here.

Can a bad coil cause this issue?

Any ideas are greatly appriciated!

Yes, a bad coil can cause this.

Try to warm it up very low and slow in an oven for a bit. You have nothing to loose. It might save it. Otherwise, time for a new coil.

Thanks everyone!

Mounted a working one just now. From my own working ms361.

But ran out of time to test, but the few minutes I had was a vastly different experience.

Startet up, etc. Didnt die, didnt run off to high speed on itself.

I have to reset and play around with the carb/carbs tommorow and put on bar/chain etc.

Run it for half a tank and see what happens!

Thanks again everyone.
I hope this is the fix.
What a time consumer this one has been.
Been through every little thing twice...

I also have had problems with 361 coils. I have switched to aftermarket coils due to the crazy price on OEM ones.

Do you have a source for that aftermarket coil? I love my 361 but it's getting long in the tooth and I'd like to bookmark a coil source. Thanks.
