Stihl ms461 vs Husqvarna 372xp

Hey everyone. Im new here and this is my first post. I am in the market for a new saw. Looking mostly at the ms461 and 372xp. was also considering a 390 or 661 but i think that is probably too big for the bars im gona be using, plus i have an 084 for the occasion i may need it. Im a smaller guy and trying to not be carrying around too much weight as my main saw. Im not a logger but my family does have 162 acres of heavily wooded property. Now i have heard reports of the newer 372 having problems. The 461 seems to have a pretty good reputation. I wanna hear some thoughts on these saws. Will be running a 20 inch bar as well as a 25-28 inch bar. Price is only a $20 difference. Thanks!

What type of tree's, size are you felling. How many chored of firewood a year are you going to be cutting? Would you be working on your saws or would you be utilizing a warranty?

I voted 372 due to having a ported 371 and it being a very versatile saw.

Well, that is the million dollar question. But it ain't 50:1.

Out of those 2 if go 461. If it was old school 372 then that's my vote.

I honestly cant tell the difference between my xtorqs and my 461..all are wrapped up with dawgs...they feel the same weight to me.

I voted 461 as more bang for your buck, but since you have a "big" saw already, you could look at the 372 as a slightly lighter alternative. I'm not sure about the antivibes on the Husky. I know the 461 has older system, but it works fine for me, just doing firewood duty. In the end, either one will be a great choice, just pick whichever one speaks to you. Don't listen to what the "interweb experts" say.

Thank you to everyone who replied. sorry i haven't responded at all. I just got back from clearing trails up at the property for the past few days, and there isnt any internet up there, haha. As i was looking around up there i was reconsidering if i would really need a 70-80cc saw. its alot of land and alot of trees, but my uncles 036 pro and husqvarna 41 were plenty of saw for the storm damage blowdowns we were cleaning up. Now i believe that CAD is setting in and i cant make up my kind as to what i want! most of the trees are from 6-20 inches. there are a few pretty pig oaks and maples, but they are very outnumbered by the smaller trees and i think most of my work is going to be storm cleanup, firewood, and thinning.

Sounding more like a solid 60cc saw to me. Lighter too.

I bought a 562xp recently, got the oil for an extra 2 years of warranty for a total of 4 years. It is surprising what that "small" saw will handle with a 20" bar. I've even run a 28" lite bar in Oak with skip chain and it did just fine on occasion.

Get a ported 371/372 and rip through those sub 20" tree's...

I find a 60 cc. Saw (MS361 in my case) is a nice balance of enough power for 95% of my work without the added weight of my "big " saw (MS461). However, when I really need it, >20" hardwood, the big guy really puts a sole on my face.

yea since i have an 084 sitting around just incase, im thinking a 60cc is the way to go. now to decide on which 60cc saw... thoughts everyone? i have my opinion but i want to see some others too!

What are quality's you want in a saw? Are you mechanically inclined? Does a warranty matter to you?

If you want a very nice 60cc, look at the Husky 555. I did that and now I own one. I love that saw.

if I thought one dealer had better service than the other that would be a pretty good influence, I happen to have a Husqvarna 562 but both Husqvarna and Stihl have good dealers where I live.
