Who makes a paint that matches the stihl case color? I know you can buy the stihl paint, but i was just curious.

Personally i'd just buy the $12 usd can from Baileys and be done with it simply because its the original paint that Stihl uses. I don't particularly trust other paints because, alot of the spray paints i've used in the past on Pioneer saws saids its great for metal etc... but it just doesn't bind properly, even when i've ruffed-up the metal abit to help the pain adhere. There is also the point of toleration to high temps especially around the muffler housing etc. Just my 2 cents worth.

$US6.79 list price... from your dealer...

yeah, and you probably won't have to show ID and a clean drug test to buy it either, like at other stores (you know, the ones who actually still carry cans of spray paint?)

Standard paint prep techniques apply. But let it dry thoroughly between coats and before use. I let mine dry a day or two before another coat. If you rush it, it'll not take well, and stay "soft" and almost tacky for quite a while Lakeside Andy bakes his in a convection oven.

I preheat the cases (just nice and warm), hit them with a light coat (it drys almost immediately), wait a while, hit them with a few more, then bake at 225 for 20-30 minutes (convection - NOT radient - the surface temperauture will be way too hot and damage the paint). Then I leave it in the oven to cool (the paint is really soft when hot).. nice long slow drying..

In front of the wood stove for a night works well...

$12?!? Is it gold flake? Like Andy said, you can get factory Stihl paint at your dealer for less than $7 a can, and a can goes along way. It's decent paint to boot.

Not sure if Curt adds the gold flakes or its done at the factory! Why not ask-him?

Hi I am new to the site . I have a 026 I am redoing after a mishap with a truck! but has anyone tried Gun paints. BROWELLS has a epoxy finish paint called GUN-KOTE comes in white. I was thinking of doing my case in it.

I have a question about baking the paint.

Is it likely that the 225° temperature will shorten the life of the seals etc.?

How hot does a saw get during use, say on a hot summer day?

Howdy Fishhuntcutwood,

This may be a dumb question but Im going to ask anyway. If standard paint prep techniques apply, does that mean you need to first use primer and then sand that a bit? If so what kind of primer? Thanks and have a good evening.
