My 044 is in need of a new rim spocket, the old rim was a 7T. The spare parts list says I can use a 7T or a 8T, but I was just wondering what the differance is in the two other than the number of teeth and the size. Is their a performance differance, chain speed or what else? I am running a 28" bar (rollamatic) and a 3/8" Rapid Super chain. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sprocket size

The 8-tooth sprocket changes the "gearing". An 8-tooth makes the chain move faster for the same rpm's. Conversely, the engine has less mechanical advantage over the chain. The 8-tooth is good with a short bar for limbing, the 7-tooth for longer bars and felling and bucking.

I don't know what it would be like with your setup, but I run an 8-tooth sprocket with 24" 3/8" on my 111S. Fast and fun.

Less torque and power with the 044. The 7-toother makes for a lower gear ratio. Like 1st vs. 3rd in a car.
