Well so far my Saturday morning is going great, I just finished watching two episodes of the timbersports series and am probably going out to do some cutting. Man, gotta love what Stihl does for the timber industry and the sport.:D

I like it too. To bad they won't let any other manufactures participate. Are they afeared????

sponsor

Now, if I was laying out the money to sponsor a sports series would I want to let someone else advertise their saw on it? Don't think so. Husky should start their own.

Before I go putting my foot in my mouth, Are any of the participants "allowed" to run a saw other than Stihl? At least at Hayward, WI you can't even get booth space if you even slightly resemble competition.
I hear ya on the financing thing but, you'd think the respective cable stations broadcasting the series would allow anyone to pony up the advertising dollars for commercials. Not so.
I guess the College World Series sponsored by Rawlings should be able to dictate that only Rawlings balls and bats will be used. On top of that, maybe no commercials by Nike, Adidas, Wilson..... .
Or maybe the Tostitos Bowl should "ban" any ads by Lay's or Jay's. Maybe they shoud not allow any other snack to be sold at the game as well. Sounds pretty crappy to me.
Maybe if all the saw makers had their own series, they could get together for a World Series competition?
Just another fella w/ an opinion.
Please remember this is all tongue-in cheek. To close to the holidays to get scrooge-like .

They don't have any saws worth competing with :D

boo hiss i know :D

I have been watching this Stihl Timber Sports for years. I have even attended two of them in Reno. There are usually six events. Three are chopping and the axes used are not made by Stihl. There are three sawing events. The hand bucking is a custom made saw by Jim Taylor, Gaston Dupree, or other saw maker. The stock saw event is cut with 066 Stihls. They are two evenly matched stock (unmodified) saws. The contestants are disqualified if they drop start the saws by the way! I guess any evenly matched saws could be used in this event but since Stihl is the sponsor I can understand. The last event is the hot saw. In the early days of this event I observed some 111 Jonsered, 125 Mcculloch, 090 Stihl, and maybe a 3120 Husky. Now all the contestants are using Rotax or a motorcycle engines made into a chain saw.
The point of all this diatribe is to show that the Stihl chain saw has little to do with the total competition. I feel fortunate that Stihl does put this series on for us to watch. I have not seen a Husky commercial during any of the breaks of course. Mike

Why is this even an issue about husky not advertising on the timbersports? I have never even seen a husky advertisment anywhere, not in magazines, or in tv spots, well I take that back Paul Harvey radio shows use to advertise husqvarna lawn mowers and tillers but that is it, I also watch shooting events (my first love is the firearms, second is the chainsaw, I AM a gun dealer) that are sponsered by Remington and I don't see any Winchester or other manufactures ads during that show. I would however like to see a sawing compitition using all brands of saws, not just in cutting a log but in different applications.

Rupedoggy, you saw 111's in the Hotsaw race? I didn't know anyone buy Dennis had tried to race these things. How long ago?

I watch it every chance I have and really enjoy it.Man,those big boys can sure go to town with an ax.I could use their chips for firewood. What type of wood do they use?

The "Homelite Tournament of Kings" began in 1978 and ran until 1985. There were qualifying events held through the U.S. as well as some held outside the U.S. The first winner was Roy Booth Sr. from Oregon. The finals were held in Charlotte, West Virginia. It was a big event and ended abruptly for reasons unknown to me.

AJLogger Dude!

Husky spent 40 million last year in advertising (sp?)and that doesn't include their NASCAR sponsorship!!
I think it's funny that Stihl has been running "anti box store" ads in the trade rags lately. Something to the effect of "Other companies call it 'distribution strategy', I call it selling me out." Well no S#!t. I've never seen Stihl so concerened over the competition before. Mark my words, Stihl WILL give in to the market and enter the box store arena. It's the way people shop now a days. Sad but, true.
As far as, Timbersports goes...I can see Clearwater becoming the "free man's" chance to air out his saw preference! The event will grow two-fold every year and rival the Stihl series. Dennis and his companion will generate enough profit to annex some more land and build that dream house. Past years winners of the Clearwater competition will be allowed to stay at the Greffard Arms as a perk for being the victor in your class. Greffard"ized" saws will become so popular that the major manufacturers will seek his services as a pro saw option. Kinda like the Shelby Mustangs. Long live the Revival!!!

Well put Stihltech, I agree, and seesaw you think 40 million is a lot of money in the advertising arena, it is not, probably 20 million or more just went in their nascar sponsorship alone. Now I am not saying husky is doing anything wrong and is Stihl concerened probably, but that is good for competition and I hope clearwater becomes a major event I think that would be awsome to see different saws and people compete, and also showcase some lesser name brand saws.

Sean, now we are talking!! lmao

I think you will see Husky pull their Nascar sponsorship in the next year. Husky, in British Columbia, used to sponsor all the loggers sports competition. Now they are saying they dont get enough return for the investment and have pretty much out. I know they used to also sponsor all of the CANLOG events, but am not sure on that status.
I asked the husky rep about some sponsorship for Clearwater, and he pretty much told me not to even bother. He, himself even refused to attend as a guest. (great reps here:rolleyes: ) This is just one of the reasons the Revival will remain open to anyone with any saws, but the Jonsered flag will fly high...lol..

See you all at Greffard Arms Golf and Country Club!

111 Jonsered was run by Arden Coger senior and I think his son did also a couple times. It was piped and was certainly competetive. The trade saw publication also did articles about hop up of a 111 and I think KDHotsaw has some copies.
Seasaw that Clearwater Revival was a blast. If fun means future recognition then it should be BIG in no time. I want you there next year. I will bring a saw for you to use in the race.
AJLOGGER I was pleased to see your first love was guns. Saws, guns, beavergirls and beer-- It just don't get any better than that!
Mike

If you get it, OLN, has had some logging sports shows on. I can't remember the name or the times that I've seen it on, but I have seen modified Huskies running in their modified class.
Also there was some guy named Lambert. I can't remember his first name though.

PS. I think the revival would be better served by a BEER sponsorship.
