With stihl 7 day policy, does that mean you can bring it back even if you have used it? Im not to sure how it works? After reading alot of post's, im thinking about bringing back my new MS 440 and getting a MS 441. The dealer had one, but at the time, i never thought to ask how much for the MS 441 power dead. Im sure its gonna be more, but i don't mind.

If the dealer agrees, yes... He gets 10% back from Stihl to resell it used or not (supposedly at the 10% off). You would get a $5 coupon in the mail from Stihl to appy to another future product.

my 2c - the 441 is nice, but there is nothing wrong with the 440...

Lake, u think i should just keep it? Im leaning more towards keeping it now that i think about it cuz i have 2 044's that i can use for parts.

ktoom,
I see your looking at the 441, at least a little. Is it only the posts or is the something about the 440? Both? I had to have shoulder surgery and now have too much time to look at saws. I am still leaning towards the 441 with a 25" bar myself.

The 440 i9s a good saw. the 441 I have is awesome. Go to your dealer and tell him your dilemna. If he is worht his weight at the least he will let you go out back and try both out back to back. If hes REAL good he willlet you demo one of them for a week!

As Boston says... talk "nice" to your dealer... but I wouldn't have a problem keeping the 440..

I noticed the recommended bar length for the ms 440 is a 20" and the ms 441 is 25". Is it cuz the ms 441 has 5.5 bhp, yet the ms 440 is pumping out 4.4bhp. Whats the story? My 440 felt a little slow with the 25" bar. Is it cuz it needs to be broken in more?

Both saws perform essentially the same.

The bar length recomendation has little to do with reality - that's just the extent of kick-back testing... and what Stihl lawyers let them publish.

Probably 10 tanks before you develop full potential... I've never felt the 440 as "slow" with a 25 bar, or a 28... Is it bogging? What chain do you have?

Dude,
the 440 is 5.4bhp, not 4.4. The 441 is 5.5bhp, only .1 more than the 44. It does have just a very small amount more umph, but not enough to trade it for sure. I'd keep it were I you. Run around 5 tanks through it and see how it goes. You can do a muffler mod in a couple months with a carb adjustment and run more umph than that 441. If it's set up like mine you should love it. I know I wouldn't trade mine for anything out there...

Im gonna keep the saw. I just wanted some opinions before it was too late. Thanks. I run the Stihl Rapid super(RS). What do u guys recommend?

Is that what comes on a MS 460? I will give my dealer a call tomorrow. Is it something that you think he will have in stock?

Not anymore. They used to but the OSHA and EPA got involved, now they come stock with the blank plate you got on yours. They're the same part though, it'll fit either saw. The 660's is different though. He may or may not have it. Some dealers have never even heard about it! I've bought at least five here at my dealer for guys who couldn't get it at their own. Don't let him try to sell you the whole muffler for $65 or so. All you need is the cover, and if you're paying more than $30 it's too much. Get the cover, and then open it's hole up a little bit. Not too much, but a little. Keep the spark arrestor in it too.

I personally prefer the smoothness of the 441 (don't own one yet) but if I climbed like ekka I would definitely prefer the more compact, lighter 440.
I'm just playing with him. Any weight saved while climbing is a plus. Sorry Ekka if you did not see the humor in it.
