well i finally bought a new hedge trimmer from stihl. i really was surprised at how well i like it as i had shied away from new 2 cycles since the new epa changes. now i know this is not a chain saw but thought id mention it.im surprised at the good workmanship and running of the piece . in short ,i guess id consider the 260 an such as a purchase . heretofore id avoided these new units like the plague. but the unit is on par with what i expect from stihl. just thot id mention this for other oldtimers that have viewed these newer saws an such, with skepticisum.. this is a solid performer, stock. it does have adjustable carb.
that surprised me also. but the mechanmic that set it up for me said ,he doubted id have to adjust it much.. hes pretty good and has show me he knows his stuff ,pretty good.so mabe ive prejudged these new intelicarbs ,or whatever its called.

Glad that you're happy with 'em. I know from reading your posts that you take equipment purchases, especially new equip, pretty seriously.

I recall an old post where someone had modded & piped their hedge trimmer, & posted a picture of it. It was about one of the damm dist things that I've ever seen.

in my case im not looking for super power ,just durable long service. a hedge trimmer doesnt usually get called on for the torque a saw does. appreciate the comments.

if your talking about the new 4 mix, adjusting the carb at the high end won't do all that much for you anyhow - the top end is limited by the ignition and it can be tricky to get just right. These machine will appear to run well when really lean, but not for long....

Ignore me, I didn't read the "Hedge" part! though we were talking about "trimers".

But yes, the new carbs are better - I figure too many warranty claims sent them back to the drawing board.

I think somebody got ahold of Tony's password. Lambert, you up to no good again? Rick/Saw ****

i hear u mryb. remember it is a hedge machine. but it has me thinking.
ill never wear out my saws so doubt ill be buying new saws anyway. but i used the trimmer today . it sure did what it was suppose to.it does have carb adjustments . the mech said just be careful pulling the caps. think ill leave them on until i need to adjust..
