they MADE an 090, but thats no longer sold in the US. the 088 is the biggest you'll get. I've never personally handled one, though I'd like to someday.

the 880 is a monster. I have a friend that has one and have ran it a few times. Around here in Michigan I dont see much need for one.....it is very heavy and it lets you know it when youve ran it for any period of time. But they are cutting monsters!!!

It is a great saw although it would would be a bit much if your just cutting pecker poles. It does build up well if your into racing.

Yeah I have one of those little 88. Those saw are bad @$$ from the time you fire it up to the second you can't hang on any more the saw screams respect me or die. I do alot of large tree removals in Lapeer county and it is so much easier with a saw that is to big for the job than trying to fight with one that is capable of doing the job. Just invest in a better set of ear muffs like ones for the gun range. and its a great source for some conversation when ever you DRAG it out.:greenchainsaw:

Got an 880 too- I think I could pull my 6 horse trailer with the
engine if I wanted to. Don't try to crank it without hitting the
decompression button or it will jerk your shoulder out.

It is a BEAST in a GOOD way

Yes, I have one, and like the others say, the 880 / 088 is a bad ass beast. Tons of torque, but you need big wood to really use it. Heavy, and LOUD, like "hurt the ears" loud...

Local timber yards use them with 5 foot bars to cut 4 foot wide by 4 foot high stacks of 2x4's and 2x6s to length...

What on earth are you planning to cut that you think you would need something bigger than an 088/880?

For crosscutting, I haven't come across anything that my 066 couldn't shred in no time flat. I've buried a 36" bar and come up 6-8" shy of making through a couple of oaks in the past 2 or 3 years. Saw hardly knew it was there. Like a hot knife through butter.

Don't know what you would need a bigger saw for unless you were milling, or had to drive a 5 foot bar on a regular basis. An 088 is't a great "user" saw, and an 090 even less so (old tech and heavy, but could pull a freight train). You take that kind of animal out for the big job, and bring out a smaller one to clean up. If/when I ever wear out my Super XL, I want an 044/046 for "clean-up"...an 036 would be okay. An 066 is fun for just so long.

oldsaw, your pretty much right on the mark. the larger saws certainly have thier place both for large trees and bragging rights if nothing else. recently took down 4 large cottonwoods and bucked-em up all were 50" to 60" on the butt.
I could have used most any saw I had, heck even an axe to fall and buck it up but the 088kd woods mod saw came out with it's 48'' bar/full comp chain and made pretty short work out of it. Kinda made this guys neighbor jealous as he was trying to help with his farm boss. Great job though, drop-em and leave-em and head to the bank. The 088/880 is a great saw and I would probably own one even if I was a tree hugger and leaf kisser.
