I was just wondering what does straight teeth do since the left and right wood hit the stump first ? Thanks for any info

They plunge when pushing straight down in the wood and help throwing away the chips.

Yep...two lefts, two rights, and two straights make up the "crossover pattern" which helps keep the machine from dancing after you plunge...youre in essence not trying to cut through 3" of wood with the back of the teeth as you start to swing again.

Straights do most of the work and wear much quicker than angles, that's my experience, I always
use new teeth when changing straights and re-sharpened ones on the angles....

Think of a dado blade on a saw. You need the straight teeth to clear out a 4" swath on a plunge or to clear debri out while sweeping your cutter wheel
